Born in Kuala Lumpor, Evelyn Leckie is only half Malaysian. The other half of her family is Scottish/Estonian. Evelyn was born in Australia, grew up in a small country town and then moved to Western Australia’s capital city of Perth to begin her modeling career. Evelyn started modeling at 17, did one charity hair show for a friend and the organizer of that show asked her to come in and take some digital photos. One week later Evelyn left for Singapore to film a TV show called Supermodelme, which aired in Southeast Asia. She ended up winning that show and won $10,000, and a contract with Diva models. She then lived in Singapore for half a year, working for Max Mara, Gucci, and Louis Vutton. She did a few commercials for television and print, then moved on to Hong Kong, where she did two contracts with Starz People, and worked for Valentino and Louis Vutton over there as well. After working in Asia, Evelyn pursued the Australian market, and found that this market was the most successful for her. She lived in Sydney for four months and did some incredible jobs managing to set herself up financially for the year.
This year Evelyn decided to take a turn in her career path, and is now almost halfway through her law degree (postgraduate). She’s found so much enjoyment from this degree, and although modeling has given her some wonderful experiences, Evelyn sees this part of her life as most important. Evelyn explained, “At the end of the day, knowledge is power, and I think as a model you can often find yourself in powerless positions. Nevertheless, I’m so thankful I’ve had these experiences in my youth, it was a great way to travel and experience different cultures. I still plan to travel with modeling on my holidays, purely to experience life in a different country.”
