Acurrent stand-out from the crowd of Thai restaurants on 9th Ave., and right in the heart of Hell’s Kitchen, is the beautiful and colorful “@NINE”. With an ambience and décor both interesting and tasteful, @ NINE creates flavorful Thai dishes that are brought to your table in a timely fashion by a cheery and knowledgeable wait staff.

Screen Shot 2014-06-26 at 2.59.42 amAsian Fusion spent an early evening with Kevin from @ Nine, who described his job as “making sure everything flows”, and Nancy, who is the food guru and chef behind the menu.

Nancy, who credits her cooking skills to her belief that every meal should be prepared as if it was for yourself, gets inspiration from watching the Thai cooking channel on Youtube, and happily puts her love into everything she does. Nancy shares some of that love with a Lunch Special

Menu with reasonable prices ranging from $7.99 to $10.99, including a starter, main course, and choice of beverage (water, Thai Ice Tea or Coffee), and features 14 basic Thai dishes in addition to 3 more ‘Recommendations’. Pad Thai, 3 variations of fried rice, 4 variations of curry, pork chop, grilled salmon, and fried chicken are just some the selections available for lunch; everyone of them a ‘perfect choice’. A special mention of the @9 Lunch is the Kow Mun Kai Tod, fried chicken breast with Thai flavored rice served with sweet chili sauce.

For ‘Starters’, it’s the Crispy Spring Rolls and the @9 Dumplings. The Spring Rolls have a bigger than expected presentation, while the @9 dumplings are simply too good to be true. The standout in Soup & Salad is the Avocado Eggplant Salad, a Thai-style salad with avocado mixed with eggplant combined with a House lime dressing.

In Noodle & Fried Rice, we recommend the Kow Soi, a northern Thai Curry Noodle Soup complete with egg noodles, red onions and dried shallots topped with crispy noodle and Thai pickle. Wok & Curry is where our spicy food lovers will find happiness, choosing between chicken or fish, three kinds of curry, and every selection prepared to your specific taste for ‘hot’. And now for our favorite on the menu: “Surprisingly”. We recommend the Lava Chicken, grilled chicken with sweet & sour sauce and steamed green garden vegetables.

While @9 has pretty standard fare for wines and beer, it’s their Signature Drink menu that gets your attention, and deservedly so. With every drink priced at just $9.99, the tough part is deciding which of the 9 drinks to enjoy. Here were just a few that sparked our interest, and quenched our thirst. “Hello Kitty”, a combination of vodka, triple sec, strawberry -mixed lime juice and soda, goes from meow to ‘wow’ in just one sip. Curiously named “Oops” mixes together silver rum, amaretto, blue curacao and pineapple juice to create a slightly tart chiller. The hands-down winner of best cocktail name was the “9 inches”, with vodka, tequila, rum, gin, triple sec, lime juice and Thai ice tea. From “Oops” to “Ooh la la” to “Kiss Me More”, @9 offers its patrons a fun and classy menu of cocktails to choose from. @NINE offers any Thai food lover the selection they crave.

A pleasant little gem in Hell’s Kitchen, @NINE has quickly become one of midtown’s latest and greatest must go-to Thai restaurants. We are happy to say that having any meal @NINE is a “10”!
