Queens Crossing Summer Concert: Music beyond Borders
Make Music New York is a live, free musical event that takes place across all five boroughs of New York City on the first day of summer and this year will be its 9th year anniversary of the event. Every year, there are over 1,000 performances in New York City, all of them providing free music to celebrate the start of summer.
Queens Crossing Mall has been a part of this event for the past 5 years and the performances at the venue have always had a great turnout and been a real crowd pleaser. This year, the theme of the concert will be “Music beyond Borders” and is scheduled to be held on Sunday, June 21st from 3:30 to 6:30PM. Various singers, musicians, and dancers will bring their talents from different cities all over the world such as New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Beijing and Manila. June 21st is both the first day of summer and Father’s day. People will have the perfect opportunity to spend the father’s day weekend at this wonderful event.
Family and friends will get the chance to experience different music genres and performances. Some include J-pop and street dance by the boyband EXPG Boyz trained by one of the leading Japanese entertainment companies; K-pop style dancing by well-known dance studio A.K.F and K-pop music by EXP feat. RK & Cedric from the legendary Korean hip hop crew, The Movement; NY style hip hop from Brooklyn born rapper Jay Mula and award-winning band Izzy Man and The Plan; pop rock from the live bands led by Rick Rocker, Joe Con and Hananel; and a special musical skating show performed by Miss Chinese Cosmos Ssuting Yu.
During the concert, there will be stands for popcorn, shaved ice, snacks and drinks stationed throughout the plaza. Attendees can also experience trendy metallic tattoos sponsored by Junio Jewelry. In addition to free admission, there will be live raffle drawings with prizes that include luxury 3-night Bahamas cruise, complimentary nights at Hyatt Hotel, fashion accessories from Pandora, Swarovski, Mango and many more. ⊙About the performers:
EXPG Boyz is a performance group consisting of participants of a new development program for upcoming artists from Japan. They are currently based in NYC and advancing their skills at the EXPG Dance & Vocal Studio on 2nd Avenue. The current members of EXPG Boyz include Masafumi Okamoto, Shoji Katsumata, Taiki Iwamoto, Micks Fukahori, Ricky Okuda, Yuto Yoshida, Ayumu “Mars” Imazu, Masahiro Sunada, and Kenya Fujita.
IZZY MAN & THE PLAN
“IZZY MAN and THE PLAN was the winner of Kollaboration NY 2013, a well-known Asian American music competition. IZZY MAN is a Filipino-American producer and performer who transforms thoughts, Sega and Nintendo samples, and Mighty Morphin Power Ranger colors into words and music. THE PLAN consists of members from all over the city, including Adrian Bridges (Guitar), Jon Bell (Drums), Ryota Sugawara (Bass), Daniel D Hype Lopez (Vocalist) and Korean-American singer-songwriter Nancy Yi. Since Kollaboration they’ve performed all over NYC at prestigious venues like BB Kings, Bowery Electric, Arlene’s Grocery, and Stage48.”
Ssuting is a model, dancer and ice-skater born in Taiwan. She graduated from Professional Performing Art School in New York and has been active in many model and beauty contests in both Taiwan and USA. She was one of the winners of “CatWalk Dream Star” hosted by the largest modeling agency in Taiwan at the age of 17. She also won the title of “Miss NY Chinese/ Miss Talent” and “Miss Chinese Cosmos” in the United States during recent years.
EXP feat. RK & CEDRIC
EXP, a member of South Korea’s top Hip Hop Crew Movement, is a singer-song writer and rapper. EXP was discovered and cosigned by two of Korea’s biggest artists Drunken Tiger and D.O. from Deux. EXP first appeared in various American mix tape circuit from 1996 and frequently makes guest appearances internationally. He is currently working on his upcoming album and being the campaign model for Madbee in South Korea. This time, he will be performing with 2 upcoming K-pop idols, Cedric and RK.
Joe Con is a singer and songwriter originally from Los Angeles. He is trying to focus on the balancing act of living and walking in multiple worlds with his music. He flashes out in the six songs that comprise his latest EP, “I Choose You”. It will be his first time performing for the Make Music New York all the way from the West Coast.
Born and raised in New York City, Rick Rocker is ready to bring energy and meaning back to rock and roll! Rocker, a singer and guitarist who writes all of his own songs, draws inspiration from classic pop/rock artists like Bon Jovi, Green Day and U2. Like those artists, the sound that he is generating is big and catchy!
Jay Mula is a hip hop artist born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Being of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent, he strives to incorporate his Spanish roots with his deep passion for hip hop and create a sound that is unique yet urban. His mixed tape, Brownsville, which dropped earlier this year, pays homage to the neighborhood that he grew up in. When Jay Mula is not in the studio, you can find him on many ad campaigns as he has modeled for fellow hip hop artist T.I.’s Akoo Clothing Line.
Hananel is a singer, songwriter and composer originally from Israel. He recently moved to NYC, leaving everything behind him, to pursue a career in music. He wrote his first song when he was 10 and have kept trying to develop his music so far. His music style is basically based on pop and contemporary R&B, but he is also trying to make his music with elements from a variety of music styles
A.K.F Dance Studio
A.K.F Dance Studio is a renowned dance academy located in the Flushing Area. Operating over seven years, the dance studio has taught their students the many steps to become a skilled dancer. The dances they teach and practice have a specific focus on street dancing and the K-pop genre and style. Over their years of profession, they have also performed in many dance concerts as well as participate and win in several dance competitions.
