On Thursday August 3rd 2017, the Taiwan Tourism Bureau hosted a press conference regarding their 13th annual Taiwan Heritage Day on Sunday August 20th at the Mets vs. Miami Marlins game in Citi Field. Former Mets pitcher, Nelson Figueroa, was invited to speak about his experience playing with a professional Taiwan baseball team and how he got drafted into the New York Mets in 1995.
On the 18th of August, Taiwan Tourism Bureau will be giving out 40,000 joint name T-shirts with the Mets and Taiwan Tourism for “Free Shirt Friday.” On the day of the Mets game on the 20th, there will be a 30-second advertisement promoting Taiwan Tourism and Taiwan Heritage Day. In addition, there will be various events, performances, music, and food promoting Taiwanese culture. For example, before the start of the game, Liu Sheng Ji will perform music and “showcase the energy and voice of Taiwan.”
Furthermore, the New York Hua Lian Tsu Hui Temple will perform a folk dance known as Santaizi. While these festivities are going on, Mets mascot, Mr. Met, will be joined by Taiwanese mascot, Oh Bear, and interact with the visitors and fans in the duration of the game.
SportsNet NY, or SNY, partnered with Taiwan Tourism Bureau as they collaborated to reach audiences by hosting a “Take Off to Taiwan Sweepstakes.” Two lucky winners will be flown out to Taiwan for 4 nights with flight and hotel accommodations for free. The sweepstakes run between August 7 – September 4.
