An Asian Opium Seduction
Changkat Bukit Bintang’s latest addition to the Werner’s Group family, Opium KL has brought a breath of fresh air to the street of restaurants and bars. Located at what used to be Werner’s on Changkat, this newly opened outlet inspired by age-old interior decors and art pieces entices its customers with an opium bed in the Rose Room, opium pipes, and Chinese wine pots at the Communal area.
In an exotic 20th century setting; between the 1930s to the 1960s, with its slogan ‘Eat Drink Man Woman’, the outlet focuses on Asian oriental delicacies with a twist. Some of the regular favorites are the Wagyu Beef Rendang (accompanied by steamed lotus leaf buns), Tuna Sashimi Pizza, Fern Leaf Salad with Grilled Prawns (additional Hemp Oil dressing), and Prawn Curry Spaghetti just to name a few. If you’re looking for something less filling, they offer traditiional dim sum selections to satisfy your snack cravings.
However, never leave the outlet without trying their desserts, especially the Banana Fritters (topped with strands of aged cheddar, coupled with banana ice cream). And don’t forget their signature concept of delicious cocktails presented in their very own unique pot or glass. Some classic favourites are the Forbidden City, Peking Man, and Tea Trader. Beer and water on the other hand, are served in old school Chinese bowls. For something non-alcoholic which includes local blends, the Mango Asam Boi and Calamansi Apple Ginger are refreshing and full of flavor.
You can expect old Shanghai classics playing in black and white on TV as well as music from the era playing in the background to give you an overall opium-like environment. A trademark of the Changkat watering holes and restaurants run by Mr Werner Kuhn of El Cerdo, Black Forest, The Whisky Bar, The Steakhouse, Dining in The Dark and now, Opium KL, it is definitely a fabulous mix of flavours and fun!
