From Tokyo, Japan, the heart of fashion in Asia, she began her adventure to another city of fashion, London. She now resides in the biggest city in the world, New York City. Aya Ogasawara is a humble little girl with hands that are holding on to a dream. A dream that will allow her to contribute her art of makeup to the world of fashion.
Having recently moved to New York City in February 2012, Aya strives her best to absorb this new and very unfamiliar city and its essence of fashion. She started her path of being a makeup artist in Tokyo, and for seven years she had been searching for what was missing. In 2009, she decided to move to London to follow her calling. She completed an International Makeup Association approved courses at The London School of Beauty and Make-Up, as well as earned a certificate for airbrushing at the London Film Academy.
Claiming London as a very innovative city that encourages her creativity, Aya has been working and devoting her time to working with leading industry professionals, and assisting some of the well known make-up artists at several major publications. She has even provided her talents for London Fashion Week. As for her new check point in New York City, she claims it as the no boundary of art world. As a combination of business fashion with art and fashion, the diversity of New York City has helped to enhance her creativity and style.
“I want to invent the kind of makeup art that is comprised of all cultures and styles, and make it to the stage at the international level!” In working with Asian Fusion Magazine for this issue’s cover photo shoot, Aya demonstrated her professionalism and commitment by carrying her almost 40 pounds of luggage filled with all of her makeup tools! She had a sincere desire to provide her very best makeup skills to the magazine’s cover model.
Aya started her dream of make-up when she was very young by drawing as often as she could in her free time. Even then, she realized she was gifted with sensitive observation, enabling her to tell the emotions beneath every piece of her drawings, including the emotion in every stroke of make-up. She believes every make-up comes with a story, while she plays the role of a storyteller helping her clients to communicate the story.
Because of Aya’s optimistic and adventurous character, she wishes she could always travel around the world’s biggest cities and meet new people; she could then learn and obtain new inspiration for her makeup career.
