Meiling Chen’s designs are a free-spirited and thoughtful journey into the uncharted terrain of hand-made ready- to-wear and eco- couture. The NYC-based designer launched her first sustainable fashion collection in 2009, and has since participated in numerous runway shows during New York Fashion Week and gallery exhibitions (such as The Carriage House, Textile Arts Center, American Folk Art Museum, The Green Spaces, and Gitana Rosa Gallery). She is also regularly invited to participate in Project Earth Day, The Green Shows, the Ecologique runway show, Eco Chic Fashion Shows and international ethical events.
Meiling’s work is organically interdisciplinary with creative ideas patterned after her Taiwanese upbringing and love for the arts. A family tradition that bespoke tailoring, led her to pursue fashion design, leading her to graduate from the School of Visual Arts and The Fashion Institute of Technology.
Meiling Chen’s “fearless dreaming” and interest in all people, the natural world, and the cross-pollination of the arts is evident in her adventurous approach to sustainable
design and fashion experimentation. Hand- dyed, carefully procured organic fabrics, luxe custom-tailored details, and waste-free pro cesses all define her label’s ethical intent. Her overall goal is to incorporate playfulness and creativity into contemporary living, while also creating timeless, trend-defying, and socially responsible apparel. The soft folds, clever geometry, and unique texture of her designs speak the beauty of original style and the daily lives of the individuals who fearlessly and expressively share her vision.
Meiling Chen’s designs have been featured on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Japan (Green Issue) and in the pages of Vogue Italia, WWD, Positively Green, Boho Magazine, PIG (Italian) and Sure (Korean) as well as on green design blogs, such as Inhabitat, Treehugger, Hiphonest, Eco Fashion World, and Ecco*Eco. Her collection is currently featured at Ekovaruhuset/House of Organic (New York, Stockholm), Storia (Australia), United Arrow, Optitude, Adam et Rope (Tokyo) and Seibu (Japan).
