First Nepalese American Festival

06Nepalese American Foundation in association with the New York Nepali Community held its first Nepalese American Festival (Nepali Mela) on Sunday, June 9, in Jackson Heights, Queens.
This colorful and exciting event ran from 11 am. – 6:00pm. and was an outdoor event created to celebrate and foster the cultural diversity and enhance the tourism and trade market in the greater New York area. Various forms of entertainment collaborated with numerous vendors, including food, art and handicrafts, to create a family-loving environment and a perfect way to make Nepalese culture known to people. This colorful event attracted hundreds of visitors, all enjoyng tradional Nepalese foods and treats.
07Nepal, being a highly visited tourist destination, holds a great cultural value among many people. This event focuses on people beyond Nepalese to learn about Nepal and its rich cultural heritage. Parts of the proceeds from the festival will be donated to charity.
