FRANKIE Z’S THRILLING POP LIFEPhotographer: Jason T. Jaskot Stylist: Renessta Olds Model: Frankie Zulferino
In the post-American Idol world, “pop singers” are a dime a dozen, and it takes that little something extra to stand out; in the case of Frankie Z(real name Frankie Zulferino) that extra something is personality. One look at his Instagram or Youtube pages finds him dancing, prancing, winking, smiling and mugging his way through both original pop songs and covers. He joined a boy band at 18, and as he says “that really changed my life.” Zulferino talked with us a bit about his pop life…….
Asian Fusion: How did you get started in the music business?
FRANKIE Z: I got started when I auditioned to be part of a boy band . I grew up dancing and singing and did a lot of musical theatre. Being part of the boy band really opened so many doors for me and taught me so much about the music industry. I recorded my first song at the age of 18 in Los Angeles and it really was so surreal. From there I began touring around the world and realized this was my new life!
AF: How would you describe your style and sound? Pure Pop?
FRANKIE Z: My music is definitely pop and is influenced by many great artists .
AF: For your shows you mix cover songs and originals, any particular favorites? And as for your influences, we here you’re a big Michael Jackson fan?
FRANKIE Z: Michael is absolutely my inspiration and my idol . His music , his videos , his performances , his clothing, still influences me till this day . He is one of the greatest performers and show men of our time and I know his legacy will live on forever. I do mix in some covers in my performances , one of my favorite sets is my ” Motown tribute set.”
AF: You have toured Asia, can you tell us a little bit about that
FRANKIE Z: Asia was amazing ! The energy, the stages, the people. It was one of the best tours I have been on and it was an experience I will never forget. I even had my first billboard ever when I toured Asia which made it extra special .
AF: You’re playing Atlantic City this year…..is that your first time playing there? Any other big plans this year?
FRANKIE Z: It is my first time in Atlantic City and I’m prepping to put on the biggest show I have ever done so far. Over 20 dancers, 7 costume changes, a band, and a hour and a half of pure entertainment! I’m also coming out with a music video within the next couple of weeks and hoping to be touring again this summer!
