Japanese “Natsu-matsuri” (summer festival) @ the Japan Information Center

The Consulate General of Japan in New York announces the “Natsu-matsuri” (summer festival) to be held in the Japan Information Center Gallery as part of its continuing introduction to Japanese culture program beginning Monday, August 6th through Friday, August 31st.

Japanese “Natsu-matsuri” is held annually and was originally recognized as a time when everyone in the local community prayed for peace and expressed respect to their ancestors. It was also well-known as a method of warding off natural disasters which could destroy crops in farming areas and keep away sickness in cities. Today, the “Natsu-matsuri” is known for its food, music and fun activities.
Please visit and enjoy “Natsu-matsuri” at the Japan Information Center. There will be a variety of traditional Japanese activities for both adults and children.
