La Peau Day Spa
Celebrates 10th Anniversary
By Rigche Ma
Flushing, May 21, 2016 – At the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel’s best-kept secret of a hideaway restaurant – the Brasserie du Dragon, La Peau Day Spa celebrated its 10th anniversary with the grand opening of its new flagship, Glamour Beauty Clinic. A simple invitation was issued for a cocktail party and ribbon-cutting ceremony but guests were pleasantly surprised by an itinerary that boasted several items including a raffle draw, a salsa performance and even a real-time facial demonstration.
At first, the ambience was made serene by one (and sometimes, two) cellist bowing to a series of unhurried appeggios and, mostly, Bach, while a host of young ladies greeted the guests – all aestheticians, pageant winners and hopefuls, dressed in matching ivory or coral, flitted about the event stage, the audience space and over the organza-rosettes-strewn narrow passage that led to Glamour Beauty Clinic itself. As the momentum picked up with each guest’s arrival, it became clear that proprietress Everlyn Ho was the queen, as well as the beauty and brains behind the day’s celebration.
Ho’s extensive portfolio extends to Best Makeup Artist in New York City by Citysearch for two consecutive years (2009 and 2010), and exclusive makeup and beauty consultant for the prestigious Miss NY Chinese Beauty Pageant for the last two decades. In her speech, she modestly attributed her entrepreneurial successes to the support of friends (many of whom were present) and alluded to her some 20 years’ experiences in the field of aesthetics, which began with her study of a specialized branch of beauty at a medical institute. She assured that Glamour Beauty Clinic had been opened for her clients’ convenience, so that they can indulge in first-rate treatments without the hassle of going to town.
Among the list of distinguished guests were representatives from Mayor DeBlasio’s office, Tommy Lin, president of Beauty Beauty USA, Cindy Chan, who admired Ho’s persistence, and politician Ron Kim, who predicted that the newly established Glamour Beauty Clinic would be a ‘success for Flushing’. Current 1st runner up of Miss Chinese International, Ms Mary Chen, also expressed her indebtedness to Ho, and shared that Ho, as pageant beauty consultant, was at first a mentor and eventually became a friend.
When the chairperson of the NY Chinese Business Association deliberated his suspicion during his first meeting with Ho as to whether she was a candidate of the beauty pageant, or a beauty consultant, the house buzzed with candid approval. The easy camaraderie that pervaded in what could have otherwise been a stiff and overly formal atmosphere was undoubtedly indicative of the sincerity and warmth that Ho has invested in all her ventures. Then, Jingjing Lai, internationally acclaimed salsa dancer and personal friend to Ho, added a touch of risqué to the afternoon, with a performance.
The celebration concluded in between the raffle, and with Ho acknowledging her loyal employees with Best Employee awards, singling out Yuki and Michelle for commendation.
