Nine Full Days to Bid on Asian Art at Skinner in Upcoming Auctions
Skinner, Inc. will host an Asian Art – Online auction of over 300 objects from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia beginning on January 28th and running through February 5th, 2014. On February 3rd and 4th, Skinner will offer over 800 additional lots in the live auction at the Marlborough Gallery. The auctions feature a diverse group of decorative items ranging from Chinese ceramics and porcelain to Buddhist sculpture and Asian furniture.
Asian Art – Marlborough, February 3rd and 4th
In the two-day Asian Art – Marlborough auction, collectors will have a chance to bid on a large assortment of ceramics and porcelain. A selection of monochromatic pieces includes three fine-crackle green and yellow vases and jars (lot 519, $300 to $400). The auction also features blue and white ceramics as well as a cloisonné twin moonflask vase from China (Lot 657, $500 to $700). A Wucai-style platedecorated with birds and flowers (Lot 516, $300 to $500) is an interesting example of a piece made for the Japanese market.
A Buddha head from the collection of the Mount Holyoke College Art Museum (Lot 199, $800 to $1,000) is just one of a number of seated figures, heads, busts, and other examples of buddhist sculpture available at the auction. A wooden Buddha (Lot 706, $400 to $600) stands over 20 inches tall on a lotus throne, and a serene, carved wood head of Guanyin (Lot 275, $800 to $1,000) is adorned with a tiara decorated with a seated Buddha.
A pair of large, mirrored display cabinets (Lot 436, $1,500 to $2,500) provides the perfect opportunity to exhibit small, decorative objects and represents a diverse selection of Asian furniture to be offered in the auction. A number of paintings, textiles, jades, and other items from China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia will also be offered.
Asian Art – Online, January 28th through February 5th
While the two-day auction is a live event offering a chance to socialize and join in the fast-paced bidding in person, the online-only auction provides a nine-day period in which to consider your selections and place bids conveniently from the privacy of your own home. The majority of the ceramics, sculpture, furniture, paintings, and textiles in the Asian Art – Online auction will be offered without reserves.
Collectors, dealers, and those interested in the arts of China, Japan, Korea, and Southeast Asia will appreciate the chance to discover interesting “finds” from among the more than 300 lots on offer. Highlights include a Chinese red lacquer tray (Lot 1183, $300-$500) and aJapanese bronze figure of a boy with a duck (Lot 911, $2,500 to $3,500).
Previews, Catalog, and Bidding
Previews for both auctions will be held on Wednesday through Friday, January 29 – 31, 2014, and on Sunday, February 2, 2014 from 12 p.m.-5 p.m. Previews will also be open on the mornings of Monday, February 3, 2014, 9 a.m.-10 a.m., and Tuesday, Feburary 4, 2014, 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
