Picks and Tricks

Summer is here and 2009 is all about being bright and sun kissed. This season’s looks consist of mix and match color combinations and a natural blushed face. Celebrities like Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Angelina Jolie have been seen sporting these looks. To achieve these styles, here are the basic five items you need to look irresistible and stylish for less than $25.

The basis of any beauty regimen is smooth and moisturized skin. Whether I’m home or traveling, I always bring my facial scrub. I love using (1) St. Ives Apricot Scrub for all skin types. Everyone can benefit and should use a facial scrub to remove oil, dirt, and dry skin cells. The weekly usage depends on your personal skin type. I scrub my face three times a week at night (scrubbing your face exposes new skin and can make skin more vulnerable to harmful UV rays from the sun, that’s why you should try to use moisturizer with at least SPF 15). Apply night cream to your face. For daytime, if your favorite daytime moisturizer does not have at least SPF 15, just apply regular sun block after moisturizing.

After moisturizing skin, applying (2) Urban Decay’s XL Primer Potion to the eyelids and allowing it to dry will ensure your bold eye shadows will appear more vibrant and last longer than a naked lid. This larger bottle is over 60% more than the original favorite and will keep your eyes fabulous for months. To achieve as many color combinations as possible, I recommend the (3) 88 Palette Series. This palette includes an array of colors with a matte or shimmer finish. Sweep a light and bright color all over your lids blending upward toward your brow bone. Second apply a darker, bold color starting from the outside working your way in on your lower lashes. Don’t be afraid to try different colors together this summer, remember, blending is key.

If bright colors don’t see like you’re type of pie, then go for a more natural, clean look with (4) Stila Convertible Color. This creamy compact serves both as a lip tint and a sheer translucent blush. Lightly pat middle and ring finger into the compact and apply color on the apples of your cheeks while blending along your cheekbone. Press color into lips for a plump matte finish. Last but not least no summer look is complete without a pair of big, beautiful, and bold lashes. The best way to get these lashes without poking your eyes with fake lashes is (1)St. Ives Apricot Scrub $3.29 at Target (2) XL Primer Potion $22 urbandecay.com (3) 88 Palette Series $19.95 at bhcosmetics.
