A GOURMET FAST CASUAL SEAFOOD CONCEPT
FROM ACCLAIMED CHEF MARK PEEL
Provided by Prawn Coastal
Prawn Coastal, a gourmet fast casual seafood concept from acclaimed Chef Mark Peel, has brought the bounty of the sea to locations in Old Town Pasadena and Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles. Owned by Korean businessman John Shin, Chef Peel and Shin have partnered to deliver a casual yet elevated experience.
Chef Peel has left his indelible mark on places such as Ma Maison, Michael’s, Chez Panisse, and Spago, co-founded La Brea Bakery, and his award-winning restaurant, Campanile, a staple Los Angeles culinary destination for more than two decades. When he partnered with a Los Angeles transplant and young Korean immigrant from Seoul, John Shin, they set out to deliver an unpretentious yet delicious menu that celebrates a diverse array of flavors from the sea and appeals to a wide range of palates. After Shin spent years working on his grandparent’s produce farm and in his family-owned neighborhood Italian restaurants, his love of all things culinary became the ideal match for the creative expressions of Peel. Together, they are also leading the way in kitchen technology, such as utilizing steam kettles to create richer broths and more complex flavors for their dishes.
With the rising trend of elevated fast casual dining, Prawn has brought high quality seafood to the everyday diner. Among the hustle and bustle of the historic Grand Central Market, tourists and Angelenos alike can find a seat at the counter while enjoying items such as twists on classic dishes like the Thai Lobster Roll, with chunks of Maine lobster stewed in a curry broth. In Pasadena, groups of family and friends can gather on the outdoor patio to enjoy the famous Seattle Fish Stew with fresh shrimp, squid, clams, mussels and fresh fish in a house-made lobster broth or the Spanish classic Paella, combining seafood and house-made sausage in a saffron broth.
