Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day
Live Celebrates Taiwanby Rick Lin
The Taiwan Tourism Bureau, in cooperation with Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day Live! celebrated Taiwan with an event in Vanderbilt Hall at Grand Central Terminal on Saturday, Sept. 26th. Taiwan Tourism New York’s Director Thomas Chang enthusiastically welcomed the guests at the opening of the event, sharing with everyone the many reasons to visit Taiwan, and the exciting program that was in store for them.
The day included food demonstrations that offered generous samples of delicious Taiwanese traditional foods and snacks, a dance performance from Takala Dance Studio, featuring Taiwan’s mascot, Mr. OH Bear, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, and a musical performance by the critically acclaimed New Asia Chamber Music Society.
Vendors and event partners participating included EVA Airways, China Airlines, and Taiwan Tourism Bureau. Each had tables that remained crowded throughout the event as visitors snapped up informational pamphlets and brochures that had highlights and helpful tips for planning your visit to Taiwan.
A definite high point of the event was the fashion show towards the end of the event which featured the works of Jessica Chen and Malan Breton. Ms.Chen has experience designing clothes for such famous brands as Lauren Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Tommy Hilfiger, and Victoria’s Secret. Mr. Breton, head of the fashion house that bears his name, is recognized as one of “the 300 most recognized luxury brands in the world”. both designers helped bring the day’s event to a close with a ‘wow’ factor, receiving repeated and extended applause from the audience.
