Taiwan Night with the MetsBy Bosheng Lee
Following the huge success of Taiwan Tourism Bureau’s “Summer Broadway Events” and “Film Festival”, “Taiwan Night”
at Citified on August 30th, in cooperation with the NY Mets, was another crowd-pleasing success. Taiwanese tennis player Lu Yen-hsun threw the opening pitch and easily won over the adoration of all the Mets fans in attendance.
According to Taiwan Tourism Director Thomas Chang, this was the tenth “Taiwan Night” organized by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau in partnership with the Mets baseball team organization. Before the game started, the Yung-Li Professional Dance group performed a Taiwanese aboriginal dance, and Taiwan’s China Airlines flight attendants sang from far away from Taiwan to New York on the big screen to help build a dream of peace and sisterhood with New York Mets fans.
A Taiwanese traditional folk art and music performance entertained the stadium, so the people of greater New York could experience a slice of deep authentic Taiwanese culture. Thomas pointed out that the Tourism Bureau hopes to bring Taiwanese culture, arts and sports together, along with Taiwan’s aboriginal songs, onto the international stage. Based upon this evening’s wonderful performances, and the warm reception received by Mets fans, we’d certainly say that New York is ready!
