Time for Celebration – Taiwan Tourism Events

Rafting on the Xiuguluan River

Taiwan, being an island, the rivers and streams that wind through Taiwan’s mountainous body are the real highlight, and any summer visit to Taiwan must include sampling one of its many idyllic locations. The mountains that cover about 70% of the island are laced with hundreds of incredible streams of crystal-clear water.

The Xiuguluan River is the longest river in eastern Taiwan, and has abundant water all year round. The river follows a winding path, flowing past Ruisui in the East Rift Valley and cutting a gorge through the Coastal Mountain Range on its way to the sea. This portion of the river is the most popular rafting course in Taiwan, with excitement- and thrill-seeking rafters being especially numerous from May to October.

The entire rafting trip takes three to four hours, probably with a stop at Qimei for rest and refreshment; the river drops 65 meters over the 22-kilometer distance of the trip, roiling over more than 20 sets of rapids of varying length and difficulty.

Near the end of the trip, at Rainbow Bridge, the river widens out and becomes calm. The river bed here is scattered with large snow-white boulders that have been given the name of Xiuguluan(Shiouguluan) jade. The International Xiuguluan River Rafting Race, held in June to July each year, has become the most important rafting activity in Taiwan. If you have a taste for thrills and a spirit of adventure, then this is the experience you’re looking for.

Taiwan Hot Air Balloon Festival

Taiwan’s first hot-air balloon festival was held from July 1 to August 31, 2011 at Luye Goutai, Taitung County. Pilots were invited from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, New Zealand, India, Thailand and Dubai. They were all stunned with the views of the sites and the natural beauty of Taitung. The event also attracts more than 350,000 spectators from Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan to visit and experience. It has become one of Taiwan’s most popular summer tourism activities.

Spring Wave Music & Art Festival

The Spring Wave Music & Art Festival guarantees unbelievable new experiences every year.

Spring Wave is only one day but with no regrets. It delivers 8 hours of the hottest pop music and in the past has featured such artists as JJ, Aska, A-Fu, Amber, Sodagreen, Matzka & Jam, along with 5 hours of cutting edge electronic music from such talent as Andy Moor, Super8 & Tab and also Vocalist Susana.

The acclaimed one-day concert is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of music lovers to partake in and party the night away. The overnight outdoor activity will be unprecedented for there.

Unlike regular nightclubs and house parties, SWMAF creates an outdoor techno party, featuring a spirit of fun and great music. Inviting both Taiwanese and world famous musicians. SWMAF aims at intoxicating audiences with non-stop bumping beats.

This festival has kicked off annually for four straight years, successfully marketing the city as well as bringing business to local merchants. Taipei, on the other hand, aspires to become an international cosmopolitan destination by offering entertainment that appeals to various cultures — techno music included for sure.
