Cita Tenun Indonesia, established in 2008, provides a venue for Indonesian traditional tenun enthusiasts and lovers to empower and bring back tenun existence. A collaboration between Cita Tenun Indonesia and Indonesia’s fashion designers Sebastian Gunawan and Priyo Oktaviano, helped to develop a concept to bring tenun into a wearable fashion line. On September 25th at the Pierre Hotel, the First Ladies & Fashion 4 Development Annual Luncheon presented its prestigious “Women’s Champions and Visionary Awards” to Ibu Okke Hatta Rajasa. The award was presented by President of ADA Foundation and Co-Chair Fashion 4 Development, Mrs. Coumba Toure. The award is given to acknowledge the preservation and development towards the tenun art and the embracement of its women crafters as the majority , to further continue its existence in Indonesia and the world during this era of modernization.
Upon receiving her award, Ibu Okke Hatta Rajasa remarked, “It has been a great honor for me to receive this award. this is a first for Cita Tenum Indonesia. I hope with this generous opportunity, I will be able to go back home and open up new doors for the traditional tenun fashion industry in Indonesia, with the hopes of improving the Indonesian economy.”
